The not-to-do list

As you approach that goal setting list for 2023 make sure you take the time to set goals for the not-to-do list.

The not-to-do list…what’s that? Well, it’s all those things you do daily that you know are adding no value, in fact they are hindering you (sometimes even sabotaging you).

That could be the endless scrolling through social media, it could be the (multiple) extra biscuits/coffee/crisps [delete as necessary]. You probably have many, we all do, but which of those do you want/need to stop?

Well here is how to do it:

  1. List them all

  2. Prioritise to those that have the biggest, detrimental impact

  3. Choose one to focus on. This is really important, give yourself the best chance to succeed by focusing on one thing, getting it right and then adding the next.

  4. Change the environment - make it difficult to continue to do that negative thing. Scrolling too long? Set timer limits or download a screen time controller app.

  5. Track your progress…but be realistic. It’s highly unlikely you’ll make a 100% improvement straight away. Instead aim for consistent improvement. Make the next day better than this.

Before you know it you’ll be removing the negative and create space for the positives. So this new year, make sure you’re setting goals of things you want to stop as well as those you’re looking to add.

A blog post on goal-getting coming up soon.
